Paddles Up!

We love the 1000 Islands as much as you do and we are excited to help shape the future of our area in positive ways!  Please join us in our quest to "Paddle for a Purpose" — with your help and energy we can raise funds to promote, enhance and help Hammond!  Through the fun sports of kayaking, canoeing and stand-up paddling you can help increase awareness of our area, and more importantly, continue to give back in a manner that will make our community better and stronger.

This annual event is hosted by the Foundation for Community Betterment and VisitHammondNY in an effort to help promote tourism and awareness of Hammond and Chippewa Bay, NY, as well as instill philanthropic values in our community.

Explore Our Shores . . .

If you love the sound of waves lapping against your boat, are continually enchanted by the beauty of the 1,864 islands, are interested in exploring and experiencing the calm waters and beautiful scenery in Chippewa Bay, and are excited about winning some AMAZING prizes, then this is the perfect event for you!

This scenic riverside course shows you an up close view of Chippewa Bay's islands, home to the incredible Singer Castle!  The Poker Run offers a short and enjoyable voyage, with approximately
1 1/2 to 2 1/2 hours worth of paddling, making it perfect for paddlers of all ages and skill levels.

The Poker Run will be held - rain or shine - starting at Schermerhorn's Harbor (Marina Boat Launch) with checkpoints at various islands in Chippewa Bay.

Kayaks, Canoes, Skiffs and Standup Paddle Boards Welcome!

Welcome to Hammond, NY

A Small Town with Big Character

Over the years I've gone from "can't wait to leave this country town" to moving back to raise our family in this small town, with a small school ... and even a small flock of chickens in front of the Citizen's National Bank of Hammond today.  Yeah ... this is MY town and I love it ... and yes, debit cards are also just catching up (novel idea, eh) ... although a lot of business transactions around here can still be done the old fashioned way ... based upon your word and a handshake not plastic!"
