Great Lakes Seaway Bike Trail
Designated as an "Easy Ride" - The Black Creek Bicycle Loop, one of the Great Lakes Seaway Trail bike loops, and is in the vicinity of Chippewa Bay. This 21-mile loop can be split into two shorter loops using Route 37 between Hammond and South Hammond, starting in Hammond, South Hammond or Chippewa Bay. You’ll travel through the South Hammond State Forest, a welcome rest stop for cyclists. Many of Hammond’s early settlers were stone masons, and a number of stone buildings have survived that are now on the National Register of Historic Places.

Macsherry Trail - Crooked Creek Preserve
The Macsherry Trail is a 3-mile long hiking trail in the Crooked Creek Preserve, located in Hammond, NY. Click here to Download the trail map. It has a long loop which takes you out to Crooked Creek and a lovely view of Chippewa Bay and the St. Lawrence River. The short loop winds through the successional forest. Whichever route you choose, you will see wetlands and beaver ponds, pine forests and hardwood stands, and the rocks of the Canadian Shield. Wildlife is abundant.
